How To Protect Your Roof

Having your own home means there is so much more than that. Whether you’re watching your home go up or experiencing any other issues homeowners do. Like confronting new maintenance. Each home offers a novel set of decisions throughout its lifespan.

The sun is the most powerful source of energy, the UV rays from the sun and the extreme heat it emits are also powerful making the topcoat or your roofing damaged. To prevent extreme heat from damaging the topcoat, roofers apply roof coats to protect the roof’s integrity.

Roof coating helps to prevent the roof from fading and not easily damage. This also avoids leaks, helps slow down mold growth, and buildup of moisture that can destroy roof membranes.

Why Invest In Protecting Your Roof

Different types of roofs need different types of roof coating. The coating used in roofs is thicker than paint. It has elastomeric properties that strengthen the roof’s surface. There are two aspects when observing a roof: one is, its geometric factors, such as shapes and size: and the last is the material used, which refers to its coating.

Roofs are affected by an array of factors such as extreme heat brought by sunlight and inclement weather. But roof coating is different from the underlying materials. The coating is what helps maintain your roof in the face of these external factors. There is a lot of benefits roof coating can give your home, these include:

Enhance protection: Roof coating protects against extreme weather, especially hail. A hailstorm can cause severe damage to every roof, but applying root coating can add an extra layer of protection.

Cost savings: Roof replacement can cost you thousands of dollars. While roof coating typically requires about 30% to 40% of the price of a full tear-off.

Energy savings: Coating helps reduce the amount of energy needed to cool your home. Coatings can fight UV rays that will hit your roof because it has reflective properties. Without coating, the roof that is hit by UV rays will cause it to hit up instead of absorbing the heat.

Types Of Protective Roof Coatings

As we mentioned earlier, roof coating will depend on the type of roof. There are many different types of roofs that can be used for your roof. And these are the common types of roof coating.

  • Elastomeric Roof Coating

From the word itself, this type of coating can contain elastic properties. It has a flexible characteristic meaning it can stretch the roof’s surface without causing any damage. This coating allows for building movement and thermal expansion due to hot weather.

  • Reflective Roof Coating

The reflective coating can help reflect the sun’s rays. These coatings can be white or can incorporate other particular reflective colors. The reflective coating can work under the “cool roof” category. This means that these coatings are capable of reducing a roof’s temperature by up to 60 ℃.

  • Polymer-Modified Roof Coating

Polymer-modified roof coating is a bituminous coating that adds polymer which helps improve its performance. It also allows better flexibility and longevity. The polymer-modified coating is more expensive than unmodified coatings.

Conclusion:

Waterproofing is essential to the life of the roof and the whole house structure. Applying a roof coating makes the roof become water-resistant, no matter how heavy the rain is. Without an effective coating, the roof becomes vulnerable to all types of damage and weather. Check out our roof restoration guide here.
